The Keys Please

The name, "The Keys" is derived from a song to be recorded and released on by nationally recognized recording artist ___________(TBA). This title is being used as a metaphor recognizing that just as we would care for children, someday we will likely be faced with the challenge of caring for our elders. Thus we must accept the challenge and respectfully ask, "Dad, can I have the keys please?"

    The Keys
    Linda Barbour - Ron Elliot

    I won't forget a moment
    The day I turned sixteen
    I wasn't quite a grownup
    Just somewhere in between

    A license in my pocket
And a pounding in my chest
    And with my hand extended
I put him to the test

    (CHORUS)
Dad, can I have THE KEYS please
Oh, you have my solemn vow
Let me have THE KEYS please
    You can trust me now

    Let me do the driving
He gave my hand a squeeze
Tears welled up within his eyes
But he handed me THE KEYS
    THE KEYS

    So many times he waited
    And wondered where I'd been
The shoe moved to the other foot
And now I wait for him

    His eyesight slowly faded
His hair has turned to gray
    Once more my hand extended
It tears me up to say

    (CHORUS)
Dad, let me have THE KEYS please
Oh, you have my solemn vow
Let me have THE KEYS please
    You must trust me now

C'mon and let me do the driving
He gave my hand a squeeze
Tears welled up in both our eyes
But he handed me THE KEYS
    THE KEYS

    Won't forget a moment
    The day I turned sixteen
